We
decided to spend one more day in the marina doing boat chores and enjoying the
kite festival. They had a new type of
kite that looked like fun. The round pieces behind the large part are scoops that funnel the wind back through the loop.
They
served yummy bagels from Panera Bread and mimosas for the marina guests. There were several food booths, kiosks, a
live band, and paddle board displays.
The marina is a beach resort with lots of “toys” to play in the water. Bob finished planning our route for the next
two weeks while I worked on paper work.
We
had the boat’s holding tank pumped out in the morning and headed out into
Chesapeake Bay. I think we were both a
little apprehensive after the condition it was in when we left it, but it was
oh – so much better! We still bounced
around and only went down to the cabin a couple of times (holding on to
something the entire way!) but it was an enjoyable ride although quite
cold! I bundled up in my jacket and
wished I’d brought the blanket up to wrap up in. One of the big differences between today and
last week was the number of boats on the water.
We rarely saw another boat last Wednesday, but boat after boat
today. We actually had to “merge” into
traffic as we entered the channel. Off
in the distance we could see a line of about a dozen commercial ships in the
shipping lane. We passed a beautiful old
lighthouse out in the middle of the channel.
Wolf Trap Light is no longer used but is still a commanding presence. We learned that the base was built on land, carried out to it's post, sunk into the soft bottom, the sand was dug out from the center and then it was filled with rock. There are several of these old lighthouses scattered throughout the Chesapeake.
We
are anchored in a quiet river and will go into Deltaville tomorrow to visit
with friends.

A
wonderful day for Gail – shopping with the ladies. We met up with 3 other Loopers in
Deltaville. Bob stayed at the boats with
the guys doing boat projects while the ladies went into town to do
provisioning, laundry, and the all important – fun shopping. So many great little shops to visit. Tourist shops, seafood shops, dress shops,
hardware store (with much more than just hardware) and then out to lunch. A great day catching up with friendships
begun at the Rendezvous in New Bern. We
ended the day with docktails (cocktails and appetizers) on one of the boats
before dinghying back to The Good Life.
The only bad part of the day was getting back into the dinghy. We had docked it on a “fixed” dock that does
not go up and down with the tide. It was
a climb to get up to the dock when we docked it and then the tide was 2 feet
lower when we came back. Bob jumped down
easily but El Clumsy Gail jumped wrong and landed hard. Let’s just say I’m a little sore and a lot
colorful! It is a pretty little cove where we anchored with interesting neighbors!
Isn't she a beauty?
