Being the day after Canada Day and a 3 day weekend, the marine traffic was heavy.
Boat camping is popular along the canal and the little "go fast" boats darted all around us.
Going through the next lock was fun as it was in town! This was a first for us and we had fun seeing all the shops we could have walked right into if the water in the lock had taken longer to rise!
Gail would have loved this one.
Bob's slice of heaven - pizza and ice cream!
The narrow canal is lined with homes - each with its own "garage"
This little home/garage must have been so loved at one time.
This dock was so much fun to see - they must have fun collecting and displaying their finds.
A tiny little garage
The next lock has a dam right next to it with heavy current. Bob powered right through it into the quiet waters of the lock.
Of course there were beautiful homes all along the way
And lots of water toys
National pride was proudly displayed along the way
The ever present fishermen - Canadian fishing boats have been more polite on the whole than U.S., and tend to move out of our way.
We've seen much more life along the way today as people are on holiday. Bob says its time to practice my "princess wave"
It was very clear water and you can see the stones piled along the shore.
We arrived at our second lift lock, this one only 50 feet tall compared to Peterborough's 65 feet, but since we are going down this time instead of up we felt every foot of it!
Coming in..
Magic is behind us.
50 feet down! Bob's comment as he pulls our boat in - "that's OK - I've got my eyes closed."
Continuing on we saw several fun sites...
Getting ready to go home with their two dogs - time to pack up the boat
Hole in the Wall Bridge (built 1905)
Don't get too close!
A pretty sculpture
Do you think the boat will get drunk if it spends too much time here?
The smallest house we've seen on the Loop so far!
This phone booth has a dummy in it!
Hydroplanes?
We spent the night at this gorgeous, quiet lock with no public vehicle access.
A fairly large cruise ship came through as we arrived. It filled the entire lock.
The lock master at the previous lock (only 1/2 mile away) requested Magic remain at that lock while we went on ahead and tied up to the wall of the lock the cruise ship came through. There was not room for both of our boats and the cruise ship too! It was a perfect opportunity for pictures.
I've never seen a boat whose bow folds up to fit in the lock!
Tight going passing us but plenty of breathing room
The ship just squeaked by Magic when it reached the next lock.
Magic was then free to come down the canal and join us for the night.
The next day - July 4th we left this piece of heaven and continued across Lake Simcoe. A perfect crossing over a lake that is known for whipping up strong winds at inopportune times. Thank goodness this was not one of them!
Our beautiful morning
Peaceful Lake Simcoe
The geese were enjoying the peaceful water too...
and the swans as well!
As we approach Orillia the water is so clear you can see bottom
We chose a beautiful marina for Bob to stay in while I fly home for Cassie's wedding. It is right in town with grocery stores, hardware stores and transportation available. Nice new docks and beautiful showers are nice percs. It's a little weedy - they say its an environmentally friendly marina - just not boat friendly I guess!
Magic is docked to the right - the last time I'll see her for a long time.
These cute guys are all over - they LOVE the weeds (they eat them) :)
Not sure if its the weeds or what live IN the weeds they like!
As we get ready for bed we spot this beautifully lit flag off our stern.
Ready to leave in the morning for my trip to Washington and Alaska. Bob is supplied with ready made meals, a few freezer meals, and lots of boat projects.
Docked at Port Orillia Marina 7/4-7/16/17
