Choosing a Name

Current Position: 47° 2' 51" N  122° 52' 35" W

Boat Update - Unhappily, there is still no boat. Hopefully we will have some good news this next week.  We are spending our time playing with grandchildren, visiting friends and family, and exploring favorite haunts in Washington in-between emailing our boat broker and browsing Yachtworld.com. Today we visited Harbor Days in Olympia and enjoyed all the tug boats on display.

Meanwhile, we need to pick a name for our new home when we DO find her!  We would like to solicit ideas for naming her, so put your thinking caps on!  We do have a few parameters to consider  when choosing a name.  Please do NOT use the following:

  1. Foreign or very unusual words which few people know, such as: Aeolus, Buteo, Naima, Nepenthe
  2. Play on words, often where a nautical word replaces a syllable in a word or phrase, such as: AHABit, Aye Sea U, B REEL
  3. Rude, crude, or sexual innuendo
A few ideas suggested so far:
  1. Next Adventure
  2. New Chapter
  3. Dream Catcher
Let the flood waters open!  Ready, set, GO>>>>>

  1. Would a cataloging name or phrase past muster? I am thinking of a play on words with MARC!

    1. Sorry! Skipper says no plays on words no matter how fun.

  2. A couple questions though, one word two words, what's the max? Also are there any other things other than plays on words that you want to stay away from? Like Bob's time in the Navy, or gig being an accountant, or dies that all fall under word play?

    3. The name is prominently displayed on the back of the boat so it does have to be fairly short. We would like a name that is understood without having to be explained - does that help? It us fun to read what people come up with.

  3. The Que Sera, Sera

I know it's foreign, but it's very familiar!
