Day 187-192 - Green Turtle Bay

So many Loopers in one place!  Many of them are touring locally and not on their boats, but we have met new Loopers (to us as well as a few new to the Loop).  Wednesday is a wet, cool day and we use the day to catch up on laundry, meet a few people, and plan dinner out tonight with Jolly Mon and Pili Lani. There is a popular restaurant here called Patti's.  It is not only a restaurant but a whole "settlement".  They have a van that picked us up at the marina.  Bob said it reminded him of what Knott's Berry Farm was when they first started - shops, put-put golf, panning for gold, lovely gardens, and eating places.

A cute garden statue

The restaurant is many different rooms - each with its own theme.  Ours was Christmas, but there was also fall, spring, and several others.  The waitress took our picture with our friends from Jolly Mon (Tom & Mary and Pili Lani (Bill & Katy).

The bread is served in flower pots and was warm - yummm!!

They have several signature dishes - Bob and I shared a 2" thick pork chop and this luscious "Sawdust Pie".

The sun came out on Thursday and many Loopers headed down river.  We have packages coming from Amazon so will stay here a week. We finally found several friends who enjoy games so we have learned 2 new ones - Jokers and Marbles, Golf, relearned Farkle, and taught Chicken Foot.  Jokers and Marbles is a fun game - check it out! We hope to meet up with them soon and play some more! More Loopers left on Friday leaving only 3 of us in the marina! One of the locks on the Ohio has been closed for repairs so no new Loopers have arrived for a few days. We expect more to come in over the weekend now that the Lock is open again.

We've been using the cooler morning hours to give the boat a much needed bath.  We are very grateful for the air conditioning that we have when we are connected to shore power.  It has been in the upper 80's now. We took a few hikes (again in the morning before it heats up too much).  It's a beautiful area.  We were so excited on Sunday to go to church but discovered they only meet at the marina during the summer months and stopped meeting here after Labor Day.  We had a nice walk instead.

This is the swimming area - the turkey vultures don't seem to want to go swimming but sure enjoy the lounge chairs :)

We found a wonderful little cemetery on a hill.  They said there are these small cemeteries all over the area.  Most of these graves are from early 1900's.  The dear family enjoys the peace and quiet.
Here is some wild life I could do without.  I also learned that I should check the toilet BEFORE I sit down!  Kind of freaky!

The marina where we are staying is Green Turtle Bay Marina.  The green turtles hold up their end of the bargain and love to beg for food.

We are off to pick up a few groceries this afternoon.  The marina has a loaner car that we can borrow for 2 hours.  We'll head out in the morning to slowly work our way up the Tennessee River, anchoring out.  It is supposed to be a beautiful cruising area.

Docked at Green Turtle Bay Marina 9/12-9/18
