Day 24 - Headed North!

Current Position: 34° 16' 9" N  77° 45' 37" W

Awesome send off by several friends as we start our adventure in earnest.  Even our boat's previous owner came down for the send off.

So close to Jay's boat and we have a boat in back as well.
Jay carefully watches his boat as we back out, while Rick gives us a push.
 And we're away!

Even though it is a Tuesday, traffic on the ICW is heavy.  There is the usual ferry traffic...
 Two ferries pass us.
The birds LOVE the back of the ferry!

And the working boats...
A shrimp boat with its nets down.
 Bringing in the catch
We think this one is a fishing trawler?
And then there were the water sports, jet skies, paddle boards, kayaks, and, of course beach life!

We tried to go out the ocean since it was such a calm day and we had to wait for a bridge to open on the hour.  We almost made it, but the swells overcame our bravery.  We'll have to work up to that one.  Bob had his hands full navigating an area of shoaling.  There were temporary buoys marking the "safe" passage.
There were dredgers all along our route today.  Must be the season!

Our anchorage tonight is between a salt marsh...
a barrier island development (the ocean is on the other side of this narrow island) ...
 and the ICW.
A peaceful night awaits...

I'll end with some of my favorites - the beautiful houses that have again changed style in this area of our route.

Anchored just south of Figure 8 Island Bridge
