Days 65 & 66 - More Flooding

Current Position: 39° 31' 37" N 75° 48' 40" W

For our last day in the Chesapeake, the Bay decided to kick up a little bit.  Rougher than we've seen her all week but still nowhere near what she was at Norfolk!  From the 90 degree weather to wearing jackets today!  Brrrr!!  The wind was quite brisk.  I stayed below most of the morning working on my blog post.  As we got closer to the C&D Canal I went upstairs to see the scenery change once again.  The Chesapeake gets quite narrow up here,

The landscape seems to be greener - more grassy areas and even a vineyard!  (missed the vineyard picture). The sandy beaches are yellow!

Even the blinds are different

The architecture has changed again too.

The canal wasn't as narrow as we expected and it wasn't long before we arrived at Chesapeake City.  It is a tiny harbor with lots of anchorage space, a small marina and a free town dock.  It's a bit shallow but with our shallow draft it works well for us.  Can you see our bright blue top in the lower center of the bay?

After we docked the fun began as we discovered our washdown system for the anchor had been running the entire time we were underway.  It could have been worse as we only motored 3 1/2 hours.  We knew we had a leak somewhere so only ran the system when we needed it until Bob could pull it apart to figure out where the leak was.  I forgot to turn it off after we pulled the anchor and paid the price.  Bob is so good, even though this is the second time I've flooded our boat, he never gets mad.  Our v-berth was full of water.  One of the cushions was soaked.  Once again - sealing nearly everything in plastic saved the day and we didn't lose anything.  Just more work cleaning up.  We have so much stored in the V-berth that this is what some of our boat looked like after we emptied it out. I was so busy cleaning up I didn't get any more pictures :(  We had stuff EVERYWHERE!  The good news is we found the leak, fixed the pump (although have a section of hose that needs to be replaced) and everything is dry again!

We met some other Loopers that arrived after we did and had drinks on their back deck after dinner.

In the morning we finished putting things back in the V-berth then Jonathon and Rosa on Salty the C-Dory showed up.  We had a great catch up time then hiked up to the top of the bridge at the edge of town.  Both men were not happy with heights but accompanied their crazy companions anyway.

This a view of the little historic town of South Chesapeake City from the bridge.

The town's buildings are well kept up and quaint.  This was originally a bank for years.  When the bank moved they donated the building to the town.  It was the town hall for years then renovated and is now a shop.  It still has the original vault inside.
This is hanging from one of the town inns.

More Loopers arrived this afternoon and most of us are headed to Delaware City in the morning.

Docked at Chesapeake City free dock.
